Developing the Workforce

Welcome to Developing the Workforce.  Like other sectors, the field of substance abuse needs to be supported and sustained by an infrastructure that addresses the complexity of issues that have an impact on the workforce. Professional development opportunities and activities that focus on training and education represent part of this equation, but fail to address the issue in its entirety.

The concept of ”workforce development” is a more comprehensive way of thinking about and addressing the full spectrum of issues that affect the substance abuse workforce in terms of capacity building and sustainability. In this section of the website, you will have access to a variety of resources that address these key components of workforce development including:

  • Knowledge, skills and experience
  • Organizational structures, systems and culture
  • Policies and strategies
  • Work conditions and opportunities for personal and professional growth

Resources are sorted by topic, with new topics being added to the collection on an ongoing basis. If there is a particular topic you would like us to include, please let us know.
