Last One Standing
The most interactive session at NSI 2010 was Last One Standing, a learning review in game show format held on the final day of the Institute. The host, ‘Guy LaDeuce’ (better known as Greg Purvis from Nova Scotia Addiction and Mental Health Services), provided entertainment as he challenged contestants with review questions based on the plenary sessions and workshops. Laughter abounded and no one left without a prize.
Prizes—and some were pretty terrific—were provided by:
- National Native Addiction Partnership Foundation
- Addiction Foundation of Manitoba
- Addiction and Mental Health Services, Nova Scotia Department of Health
- Centre for Addiction and Mental Health
- Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse
- Addiction Research Centre, Correctional Service Canada
- Dr. Carlo DiClemente (four signed books)
Pre-Institute Reception
On the evening before the Institute officially got underway, CCSA and ARC co-hosted a meet-and-greet reception for participants and faculty. The event, which featured delicious hors d’ouevres and non-alcoholic beverages, allowed participants and faculty to get to know each other in an informal setting before the real work got started.
Kitchen Party
No visit to Prince Edward Island is complete without a traditional kitchen party. On the second evening of the Institute, participants and faculty were treated to music provided by local entertainers and the opportunity to learn how to shuck oysters with a patient teacher.
Scavenger Hunt
On the third evening of the Institute, several hearty souls ventured out in the rain to take part in the scavenger hunt. The winning team, led by Ian Mattatall from Alberta, won coffee mugs courtesy of the Stanhope Beach Resort. Rumour had it that the prize was actually a week at the Stanhope, all expenses paid—but, of course, it was just a rumour!
