Keynote Speaker
The keynote speaker was Dr. Carlo DiClemente, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland. Dr. DiClemente is internationally known as the co-creator of the transtheoretical model of change and is the author of more than 140 publications.

Plenary and Panel Speakers
The Reverend Rick Burk from Correctional Services Canada, Imam Abdul Hai Patel from Toronto, and Elder Tobasonakwut Kinew from Winnipeg comprised a panel that discussed the role of spirituality in the healing and recovery journey, stimulating thinking on this important consideration.
Wayne Skinner, Deputy Clinical Director of the Addictions Program at Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), presented on Addiction Treatment: Meta Concepts and Holistic Approaches.

Dr. Louise Nadeau, Professor at the Department of Psychology at Université de Montréal, and Wayne Skinner jointly led an entertaining, engaging and informative session titled Finding Ways: Continuing the Care Journey, which addressed aftercare in the continuum of care and navigating the system.
Rebecca Jesseman, Research and Policy Analyst and the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse; Dr. John Weekes, Associate Director at the Addiction Research Centre; and Dr. Louise Nadeau conducted a panel discussion on promising practices in the addiction treatment arena.
Special Guest
The National Summer Institute was honoured by the presence of Patrick Augustine from the Elsipogtog First Nation in New Brunswick. Patrick welcomed participants to the territory with drumming and song and also offered a prayer and a special healing song for participants.
